MAJOR WINTER STORM TO AFFECT CENTRAL PLAINS
UPDATED AT ; 4:44 PM

Hello Fellow readers, the Omaha Weather office viewing area has a MAJOR WINTER STORM heading towards them. While their is still some uncertainty with the storm track, the NAM model is showing a much more NW track then earlier runs but a smaller precipitation shield. The NAM would give areas such as Falls City Nebraska 1-3″ snow with .10 of ice. With East Central Nebraska and near des moines Iowa seeing close to nothing. Still it would put the main heavy snow band in Central and Eastern Iowa with freezing rain also likely later tonight with 4-10″ of snow on top of that. That spells power outages with 50 MPH winds and snow plus the accumulated of ice possibly over .25

The Gfs on the other hand is much more broader with the precip shield and has the NW side of the precip further northwest in Eastern Nebraska. Areas such as Omaha Nebraska southward could see 2-5″ of snow with .25 of ice expected with Central Iowa and Eastern Iowa experiencing a MAJOR BLIZZARD with major ice accumulations before that. Snow accumulations from Des Moines eastward receiving 4-8″ of snowfall. Areas in Northeast kansas and Nw Missouri stand the chance of 2-5″ of snow with .25 of ice expected. Once again, power outages may be likely in East Central Nebraska, Southeast Nebraska, Iowa and NW Missouri in this entire event. Right now i am leaning towards the GFS model as it NW trend continues, unless the GFs trends further south. But by looking at the radar trends it looks like the precip is following the frames the GFS is. Right now the Winter Storm Watch will remain in effect and to judge other models later tonight, we may need WINTER STORM warnings issued.
